Tips To Be A Good Driver
Are you a driver who wishes to have or maintain a good driver discount in your auto policy? Keeping this record mean you are responsible and very cautious when getting behind the wheel. You’re operating a very dangerous piece of machinery. There is always room for improvement when it comes to driving.
Let’s share some tips on how to become a better driver:
Go to Driving School
Need to take points off your driving record? You may attend an online or in person driving school class. They’re actually pretty good refresher courses for anyone who is new or who has been driving for a while. Here you will learn such things as the difference between a DUI and a DWI and how many drinks it takes to get either on your record. The courses range usually around $35.
Park with Precision
Parking is easy once you get the hang of it, but in tight spots or when you’re new to driving backwards, it helps to know a few tricks. Find videos online that can help you with some tips on how to park better. Some newer cars, come with rear view cameras and the screen showing you the view has colored lines to help you see how well you are parking. The sensors in newer cars also warn you when you are too close to an object.
Properly Put Hands on Wheel
For many years driving instructors taught students to keep their hands on the steering wheel at the 10 and 2 positions on the clock. Well this has changed, so you’re now supposed to keep your hands lower, at either 9 and 3 or 8 and 4. This gives you more control at driving and makes your arms feel less tired.
Adjust Your Mirrors to Cover your Blind Spots
There’s a better way to position your mirrors than you might have been taught. For example, adjusting the side mirrors so far outward so they’re just overlapping your rear-view mirror.
Don’t Drive When You Are Sleepy
We know is very dangerous to drive when drunk or tipsy, but not having slept could also be as dangerous as driving under the influence. Any time your mental facilities are compromised, it is best to stay off the road or find an alternative way to get to your destination.
No Speeding
Is not about getting there sooner, if that was the case then you should be leaving early. But speeding really does increase your risk of getting into an accident or getting a speeding ticket.
Ditch Distractions
Texting while driving is both dangerous and breaking the law. It’s possible to drive safely while using your cell phone if you have a Bluetooth connection. But, also distractions are eating while you drive, changing the radio, talking to a passenger. Distracted driving in general is the main issue.
